Agree with you Anethra..
Its not just in the love stories.. but everywhere..
Have you ever seen any happy news in the news papers ? Its filled with tragic events .

Muthu..
haha... true true... lets view separation in love as a happy ending ... would have been tragic if  it would've ended in marriage ..

Dear Anetra

if any love story ended happily.......the married life would be disastrous.....that's how it is depicted everywhere.......

The human compassion is more for the deprived rather than to the privileged.A story with happy ending brings cheers whereas sad ending brings tears. One must be a perfect lover creating perfect love.We may value the lovers only by this yardstick and hence liking a tragic ending .
Lovers like Romeo and Juliet or Laila and Majnu are rare to find.

"I was pondering over this issue and it occured to me that I don't remember any love story that had a happy ending being highlighted. "

Ani,

Every fairy tale- Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty...almost every movie- Hollywood or Bollywood...ends with a "happily ever after'...

May be it all upto our perceptions as well...and what we call a "love story"..all love stories have sadness in them..whether one goes and kills themselves or not!...

Speaking of which- 'Romeo and Juliet' is famous for Shakespeare's play-writing skills..more than anything..because it is a puppy love story gone bad.

It is funny- touching/kissing 14-yr old girl in the US today- is legally seen as 'underage molestation'-lucky Romeo did not end up as a jail house Romeo!

Haven't seen the movie. Disturbing ending, not good for me :)

once broken - proves it is breakable.

Your blog reminds me of Aniston in F R I E N D S...but then Racheal ended up with Ross :)

Oh yea! I saw break up too and I hoped to God too that they would get back together.. Though the movie ended on a postive note yet there is an itch.. the dissatisfaction of their not having gotten back together..

And for movies with tragic endings and all.. *sigh* maybe love is a delusion that is at its best in death.. what else can be the explanation!
